The developer Portal 64 asked not to be angry with Valve for the project blocking
As we have already reported, Valve blocked various projects created by fans, including Portal 64, essentially a “demecta” of the play-headed game capable of working on real equipment Nintendo 64. Now the creator of this game – James Lambert – called on his fans not to be angry with Valve.
In the video published on YouTube, Lambert explained why Valve, who usually does not put sticks in the wheels to the modders and the creators of the fan games, took this step and said that he was completely surprised that everything turned out that way.
“Valve asked me to stop the development of Portal 64, and I can’t say that I did not expect this, given that it was their IP on the Nintendo console,” he said. “I hoped that I could do this, but there is nothing unexpected in that”.
Further, Lambert explains that Portal 64 was created using Libultra, the official SDK used to create games for N64, and that as soon as the legal team Valve found out about this, they blocked the project.
The most important part is that Lambert does not hold evil on Valve and asks fans to be the same condescending.
“I don’t blame them for anything, and I think, and you also should not blame them,” he says. “Do not be angry with Valve. Probably, the project was destined to be blocked from the very beginning. “.
The developer adds that he considered the possibility of porting Portal 64 on Libdragon, SDK with open source for development on N64, although, given that this can lead to additional legal obstacles, the chances of this are quite small.
Having dedicated Portal 64 almost two years of his life, Lambert says he “I learned a lot“And ready to move forward:
“I think I went through a rather important milestone for the project before it was closed, and I am satisfied with what I did”.
In addition to continuing the creation of content for your YouTube channel, the developer reports that he wants to create his own original game, developed simultaneously for Nintendo 64 and PC.
